Lacrosse season gets under way at Wolmer's Girls
Defending boys' champions St George's College, and last year's girls' winners St Hugh's High, will be among the competing teams when the fourth school's lacrosse competition gets under way today at 2:30 p.m. at Wolmer's Girls.
Fifteen schools are down to participate, nine boys and six girls, and Jamaica Lacrosse Association vice president Dwight Clarke expects a very close battle for top honours, especially among the boys.
"This year I expect teams like Hillel Academy and KC (Kingston College) to really challenge along with Excelsior High. There are some teams rebuilding like Wolmer's and Holy Trinity but Calabar High are real dark horses and a team to watch," he said.
KC, Wolmer's, Excelsior, St George's and Holy Trinity will contest Group A of the boys' competition while Group B will comprise Calabar, Hillel, Campion College and Jamaica College.
Alpha, St Hugh's and Wolmer's are in Group A of the female competition with Campion, Hillel and Excelsior in Group B.
In the opening round of games for boys, Wolmer's will face Excelsior and St George's oppose Holy Trinity in Group A. In Group B the matches are Calabar versus Hillel and Campion against Jamaica College.
In the girls' league the scheduled games are Alpha vs Wolmer's in Group A and Hillel vs Excelsior in Group B.
Games will be played at Wolmer's, Hillel, Jamaica College, St George's College and Kingston College throughout the course of the season.
