St Martin Netball Association appoints Marva Bernard
Former president of Netball Jamaica, Marva Bernard, said she is very delighted with her recent appointment as mobile director of the St Martin Netball Association (SMNA).
Bernard has been charged by the SMNA with the responsibility for development and governance of the association.
Bernard, who has worked with the SMNA in the past, told The Gleaner that she would be working assiduously to help rebuild the country's netball programme.
"They have asked me to assist them, and I readily accepted it because I will be sharing the knowledge that I have with them," she said.
"In the region, we talk about the buddy system a lot, and this, I think, is one example of somebody who has certain amount of experience in leadership of an association helping out a small country like St Martin," she said.
"They are just coming out of a terrible hurricane, and they want to rebuild their netball association, and I have some knowledge that I can share with them, so I said yes," she shared.
Bernard previously worked with the federation to help organise the Netball World Cup youth qualifiers in 2016. She helped to market and raise funds for the tournament on behalf of the association.
"My relationship developed with some of the leaders of the organisation, so when they asked me to help them, especially now that they are trying to get back on their feet, it was a no-brainer for me to say yes," she said.
"I don't have to travel up and down to St Martin because everything is done by email, phone or Skype," Bernard said.
"I have promised to help them with governance, marketing and fundraising, using the templates that I did with Netball Jamaica, so it is not a heavy load, but it is something that I am committed to doing," Bernard stated.
