Emmanuel lift Norbrook Cup
Hosts Emmanuel Christian Academy captured this year's Norbrook Cup Under-6 competition following their 4-0 victory over Ballaz Academy in the final yesterday.
Jude Davis had an excellent performance as he netted all four goals in leading Emmanuel Christian Academy to victory.
Davis, who was the leading scorer in the competition with 15 goals, was named the Most Valuable Player of the one-day tournament.
Emmanuel Christian Academy led 2-0 at half time before quickly wrapping up the victory in the second half, with Davis scoring twice in two minutes.
Gregory Jones, coach of Emmanuel Christian Academy, said he was very delighted with his team's performance.
"It is a good feeling to win this competition because we have a nice programme for the past four years, and we have been in the final for the past four seasons," said Jones.
"We have a good crop of boys here at Emmanuel Christian Academy, and so it is testament to what we are doing here," Jones said.
Andre Virtue, director of Ballaz Academy, said the tournament is good for the development of football in Jamaica.
"The earlier we start with the players, is the better," said Virtue. "We are trying to give them exposure and we are trying to give them opportunities to learn the game from young.
"It can only help to benefit the programmes, whichever programme it might be - school or club programmes," he added.
St Aloysius Primary placed third after a 2-0 victory over Hillel Academy. Sixteen teams took part in the tournament.
