THE 2018 track and field season will step up a notch today with the staging of two meets in the Corporate Area.

Top billing goes to the Camperdown Classic inside the National Stadium while athletes doing throwing events will be at Excelsior High School for the King of the Road meet.

Several of the country's top senior athletes will be looking to step up the pace in a bid for selection on the World Indoor and Commonwealth Games teams.

Athletes from Racers Track Club, led by Yohan Blake and Zharnell Hughes will be in action at the National Stadium. Both athletes are down to compete in the men's 100 metres and following good runs two weeks ago in the 200 metres at the Queen's Grace Jackson meet, the two are expected to continue that trend. Athletes from Cameron Blazers and Akan Track Clubs will also be in action with the likes of Dawnalee Loney, Tiffany James, Javon Francis and Jamari Rose on show. Action at the National Stadium starts at 8:20 a.m.

Following their dominant performances so far at the various meets it should be another great day in the office for Calabar High as they will be in action along with Jamaica College and St. Jago High on the boys' side while among the girls the top schools are StJago High, Vere Technical and Excelsior High.

World Under-18 110 metres hurdles champion De'Jour Russell of Calabar will make his first appearance on the track this season. He will open up in the 100 metres and he is also expected to be joined by teammates Anthony Carpenter, Tyreke Wilson, Rosean Young and Michael Stevens in the 4x100 metres relays where they are expected to make a scorching run.
