Penn Relays 2018 | Former Edwin Allen star Kalawan takes 400mH title
Former Edwin Allen High standout, Shannon Kalawan, registered the first win for a Jamaican at the Penn Relays, after taking home the college women 400m hurdles event at Franklin Field.
Competing in the first track event on the programme, Kalawan, the 2018 IAAF World Under 20 silver medallist, who was representing Saint Augustine's University, captured the event in 57.30 seconds.
She got the better of the University of West Indies' Candice McLeod, who was second in 57.78 seconds, with Marketa Thomas of Clemson University finishing third in 58.73 seconds.
Vere Technical's Sanique Walker was the best finisher for Jamaican athletes in the high school girls 400m hurdles event.
Walker won her heat in 59.48 seconds for the fourth fastest overall time.
Msai Russell out of Bullis High in Maryland was the overall winner after winning her heat in 58.49 seconds. Adriana Shockley of Western Branch was second in 59.10 seconds, while Winsome Harris of St Elizabeth Technical, was fifth overall in 1:00.03.
Jhonelle Thomas of St Catherine High ended in ninth place with a time of 1:01.07.
