Top umpire Casserly for Davis Cup

Jamaica's premier tennis umpire, Simon Casserly, will be heading to Costa Rica this weekend to ply his trade. He has been selected to officiate at the Davis Cup, Group 3, Americas Zone playoff, which will be held in the city of Escazu from May 28 - June 2.

Casserly is the only Caribbean official to be selected and he is very pleased with the assignment. He has been brushing up on his Spanish as it will be his first Davis Cup tie in a country where the native tongue is foreign.

Nine countries - Jamaica, Costa Rica, Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Cuba, Honduras, Panama, and Paraguay will be competing in the round-robin event. Two teams will advance to Group 2 in next year's competition.

Casserly officiated at the recent Group 2 tie in Barbados but is even happier with the Group 3 assignment because the format of play ensures more matches. He is required to chair 25 professional matches per year in order to maintain his accreditation.
