Dacres hunts more glory in Oslo
FIVE Jamaicans - Fedrick Dacres, Shanieka Ricketts, Kimberly Williams, Danielle Williams and Aisha Praught - will be in action today at the fifth stage of the IAAF Diamond League series, the Oslo Bislett Games in Norway.
Following his impressive showing a week ago in Rome, Dacres who has been unbeaten this season will be hoping to continue his winning ways in the men's discus.
In Rome, Dacres defeated a quality field after a throw of 68.51 metres and in the process relegating World Championships gold medallist, Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania into second place. Gudzius, Ehsan Hadadi of Northern Ireland and Daniel Stahl of Sweden will be the top throwers in today's competition.
Ricketts and Williams were second and third respectively in the triple jump in Shanghai and will want to continue their good form. They will have Colombian Caterine Ibarguen to contend with. Ibarguen won with a world leading 14.80m in Shanghai.
Danielle Williams, following her second place finish in Rome behind the American Sharika Nelvis, has a glorious chance of going one place better in the women's 100m hurdles which is a non-Diamond League event. Alina Taley of Belarus with a season's and personal best 12.41 seconds should start the favourite but Williams along with Jasmine Stowers of the United States could fight out the finish.
Commonwealth Games champion Aisha Praught will be hoping to improve her eighth place and season's best of 9:19.33, when she competes in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase.
One of the most interesting events on today's programme should be the men's 400 metres hurdles where homeboy Karstan Warholm will be hoping to get the better of Diamond League leader Abderrahman Samba of Qatar.
Warholm who went out very fast in Rome was caught by Samba close home. Samba won in a world leading and Diamond League record of 47.48 seconds while Warholm clocked a personal best 47.82 for second.
