Cavalier's Speid eyes seven new players
Rudolph Speid, technical director of Cavalier Sports Club, has revealed that the club will bring in seven new players to strengthen his squad ahead of next month's start of the 2018-19 Red Stripe Premier League season.
Speid said that he will not be announcing the names of the players until the deals are complete.
"I am expecting to make these transfers before the transfer window closes at the end of this month," said Speid. "We are working on them and hopefully they will go through," he said.
"We need players to boost our squad and the players that we are eyeing are players that will make the squad better than last year," Speid added.
However, The Gleaner understands national invitee and Sandals South Coast midfielder Leonardo Ranking is one of the players that could move to Cavalier before the transfer window closes.
Speid said they are looking to add two strikers, a goalkeeper a central defender and three midfielders to the squad.
"We have identified these players already, but I don't want to name them because the transfers have not gone over the line as yet," he said.
Cavalier are coming off one of their best seasons in the Premier League in the past three decades. They made the semi-finals of the competition with the youngest team. They had an average age of 21 years old.
Speid said four members of his squad will be heading back to school in September to prepare for the schoolboy football season. These players are Shaniel Thomas, Dwayne Atkinson, Nicque Daley and Nicashay Murray.
"There are also a couple of my players that other clubs are looking at, and so we could even lose them to overseas clubs before the Premier League starts," the Cavalier technical director said.
