Bale will deliver for Real Madrid - Giggs

Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale celebrates scoring his side’s third goal during the Spanish La Liga match between Girona and Real Madrid at the Montilivi stadium in Girona on Sunday, August 26, 2018.

Ryan Giggs is backing Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Juventus.

Ronaldo moved to the Italian champions over the summer in a US$130 million deal, but Giggs believes that Bale, who took his impressive pre-season form into the first two La Liga games of the season, can produce the goals and lead the lines for the Spanish giants.

Mariano Diaz was brought in from Lyon, but new Los Blancos coach Julen Lopetegui has so far shown his faith in the Old Guard.

"When someone like Cristiano leaves, there is always going to be a spotlight on who is going to replace him goal-wise and threat-wise," said Giggs. "It's a massive void to fill, but Gareth has the experience now of being at the club for a long time.

Giggs credited Bale's big- game presence and expects him to step up for the club.

"Every year, there is pressure on him, and he has handled it brilliantly. It's a bit different this year because Cristiano has left and there will be more focus on the players who are going to replace the goals. Gareth has shown his qualities in big games and that he can handle anything that is thrown at him," Giggs added.

"He has started this season on fire, but there's never really a time when he is not playing well," he added. "I think always the problem with Gareth is that when he has been injured, he's then had to come back and get more game time.

"But when he plays, he always plays well and more or less scores.
