Green Pond looking to end Cornwall's perfect run

Western Bureau:

Despite going down 2-0 in their first encounter Gregory Daley, coach of Green Pond High School, says with the resolution of their identification card problems they are looking to turn the tables on hosts Cornwall College in their Zone 'A' ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup match this afternoon at 3:30.

Cornwall sit atop the zone with 15 points, ahead of Green Pond with nine. Both schools have played five games. Anchovy High are also on nine points from five matches but Green Pond have the better goal difference.

"We were a bit unfortunate in the first game against Cornwall. Some players were without IDs and unfortunately, they did not get to play. I had to make seven changes to my starting eleven. So that was a major setback ... I'm not taking anything from Cornwall they played well to beat us 2-0 but we are coming back to turn the tables on them," said Daley who is also the president of the St James FA.

Daley who blamed the field for their 3-2 loss to Anchovy last Saturday is looking forward to an exciting encounter with the 2016 champions on a field he believes will suit their style of play if they can remain disciplined.

Green Pond have conceded seven goals compared to Cornwall's one and have only scored eight to their counterparts 15.

"Playing away is not a problem as long as we have good pitches playing on. My biggest fear is playing away to Anchovy and Maldon because of their field conditions. We are looking forward to the Cornwall game. It's a top of the table clash, yes, but we have to be more consistent. If we are consistent tomorrow we should not be in any problems," Daley said yesterday.

"Conceding goals is always a problem but what we need to do is be safe at the back. Football is about who performs on the day and if we perform to our optimum I think we should come home safe," said Daley.
