National Junior record holder in the 100m hurdles Daeshon Gordon passed away yesterday morning, Northwestern State University (NSU) has confirmed.

Gordon, who was completing studies for an undergraduate degree after an outstanding collegiate career, ran the junior record in 12.97 seconds at the 2015 JAAA National Senior Championships, where she finished fourth, one spot outside of the top three, which made it to the IAAF World Athletic Championships that year.

She won a bronze medal for Jamaica at the Pan American Junior Championship that same year.

The 22-year-old also had a personal best of 57.24 in the 400m hurdles.

NSU's director of athletics said: "Our hearts go out to Daeshon's family at this difficult time. There are no words to express the feelings that so many have when a young life ends abruptly and much before it time."

Gordon's cause of death is believed to have been a heart attack.
