Olympian Kemoy Campbell regains consciousness ... Family establishes GoFundMe account
Agent Ray Flynn has confirmed to The Gleaner that Jamaican distance runner Kemoy Campbell is conscious and has been talking.
Campbell had been sedated by doctors at the New York Presbyterian/ Columbia University Hospital after he collapsed, while competing in the 3000m event at Saturday's Millrose Games at The Armory in New York.
The Olympian had to be treated and revived track side by medical and emergency personal and later rushed to the nearby hospital, where he has since been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit on assisted breathing.
Flynn told The Gleaner that as of Tuesday morning, Campbell is in stable condition and encouraged everyone to continue to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.
"As of this morning, Kemoy is in stable condition in the ICU at New York Presbyterian/ Columbia University Hospital. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. Kemoy is awake and talking. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers," Flynn shared.
He noted that the athlete's family was extremely grateful for the prayers and encouragement received and that they have established a GoFundMe account to help with his mounting medical expenses.
"Campbell will continue to be monitored and recover at the hospital for the foreseeable future. In order for Kemoy to continue receiving the best care and to offset mounting medical costs, we are asking for donations to help support him and his family during this challenging time. Any donation made to help Kemoy on his road to recovery is greatly appreciated," Flynn said.
"Kemoy and his family are very grateful for the overwhelming support and outreach. The Campbell family would also like to express their gratitude for the team of doctors at New York Presbyterian/ Columbia University Hospital and the quick response of The Armory's on-site medical professionals and doctors who assisted Kemoy and for the outpouring of support from the track and field community," Fynn continued.
