Just do it! - Reggae Girl Shaw signs deal with Nike
Top Reggae Girlz striker, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, has signed a contract with US-based sportswear company NIKE, with world-renowned sport agency A&V Sports announcing that the talismanic Jamaican is the brand’s newest ambassador.
A&V Sports is currently one of the biggest sports agencies in world football, having represented some of the sport’s biggest names, such as 2018 Ballon d’Or recipient Ada Hergerberg of Norway, Samantha Kerr of Australia, as well as over 30 other players from more than 10 different countries, including star names such as Kadeisha Buchanan (Canada), Caitlin Foord (Australia) and Jess Fishlock (Wales).
Although no official word or details on the contract have been made public, the sports agency posted a picture of the 22-year-old Jamaica striker on its website, wearing a Nike-branded tee and holding a pair of Nike’s Mercurial boots, welcoming her to the ‘Nike family’, with the caption: “Geared up for the summer. How about them new cleats @bun_bun10? Welcome to the @nike family, Bunny!”
Attempts to contact representatives from A&V Sports as well as Shaw were unsuccessful.
The University of Tennessee attacker led Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz to their historic FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification in France back in October, scoring 19 goals in qualifying and dominating headlines during and after qualification as the team’s talismanic figure.
Shaw, the 2018 Guardian Footballer of the Year, was her school’s top scorer in the NCAA Championships this season with 27 goals in 32 matches.
She also registered the most assists (11) for the Volunteers throughout the season and is seen by pundits around the world as one of the most exciting players heading into the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Jamaican is one of the most sought-after female players in the world and is expected to make a big move to Europe upon completing her studies.
Shaw represented Jamaica at under-15, under-17 and under-20 levels, all in the same year (2011) at age 14, before making her senior team debut in August 2015.
