Jamaica Tallawahs lose CPL opener to Trinbago Knight Riders

The Jamaica Tallawahs suffered a 22-run loss to the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in their opening Hero Caribbean Premier League match at the Queens Park Oval in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad tonight.

Asked to bat first, TKR posted a formidable 191 for four from their allotted 20 overs with opener Tion Webster getting an unbeaten 66 from 49 balls, which included seven fours and two sixes.

The right-hander got good support from Sunil Narine, who hit 46 runs from 22 balls, while skipper Kieron Pollard weighed in with a valiant 33 runs, not out, from 21 balls.

It was an indisciplined bowling performance from the Tallawahs, as off-spinner Steven Jacobs finished with the best figures of one for 14 from two overs.

In reply, the Tallawahs could only manage to get 169 for six in 20 overs, with overseas player George Worker top-scoring with 46 not out from 33 balls, while Andre Russell made a fighting 44 runs from 24 balls, with four fours and four sixes.

Earlier, Chris Gayle could only manage 28, so too did Chadwick Walton, as the player of the match, Sunil Narine, bagged two for 23, and Jimmy Neesham, two for 27.
