RJRGLEANER Sports Awards | Regional cricketers can challenge for U19 crown - Walsh
Daniel Wheeler, Gleaner Sports Writer
Legendary West Indian fast bowler Courtney Walsh believes that the regional Under 19 side has what it takes to mount a challenge in the Under 19 Cricket World Cup.
The West Indies are in a tough group B, which includes Australia, England and Nigeria.
Walsh believes that the team has intangibles where the batting is concerned and will play a critical role in how far they will go.
"I think their batting has depth and that's one area they can dominate because they have some very experienced batsmen," he said.
The tournament kicked off today with a major upset as host nation South Africa were defeated by Afghanistan by seven wickets
The West Indians will open Group B play against England on January 20.
Walsh was speaking to The Gleaner at the RJRGLEANER National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards 2019.
