Vox pop for Western Focus
Since the start of the 2016 general election campaign, several influential personalities in local politics have made bold statements about what is likely to unfold in western Jamaica. Here are some of the quotes:
"Based on the energy I have seen in the region, I see no way in which any Labourites (JLP) can win any seats. We have 10 seats in the region and I strongly believe we are going to take home all 10 seats."
"As general secretary, I have been all over the island, but you see this little corner here, I want the seven seats from St James and Hanover. I have a personal interest in taking back these seats from the PNP."
"I understand the other gentleman (Andrew Holness) was here this afternoon, and I am sure he would have loved to have a quarter of this gathering. I want to say to that man, don't test Westmoreland; Westmoreland is PNP country."
"You are looking at a present allocation of four seats for the JLP and 12 for the PNP. It is early days in the campaign, but what I am prepared to say at this point is that there could be some surprises in the west."
"Derrick Kellier is a son of the soil (South St James), but he has failed the people miserably. I am also a son of the soil ... I grew up in Point. I am here to grant the people their wishes for proper representation."
