Scores of children from Water Wheel district in Martha Brae, Trelawny, will go back to school for the new school year in fine style, thanks to the generosity of the United States-based recording company, Most Wanted Records, who recently held a treat in their community and provided them with back to school supplies.

The inaugural event, which was well attended, also served as a homecoming event for several members of the record company, who are originally from the Water Wheel. Chyke Prendergast, popularly known as 'Prendy Most Wanted,' told the Western Focus that it has been his passion to come back and invest in the education of the youngsters in the community.

"As we rise towards the top, we would like the people who help us to get there to rise with us .... So we want our community to benefit from our successes," said Prendergast. "We not only want to be successful; we want to inspire others to be successful as well."

Among the items donated to the children were; backpacks, pencils, sharpeners, rulers, crayons, notebooks, erasers, and other school supplies. There were also giveaways and entertainment for the over 400 children who came out to participate in the fun and frolic which unfolded throughout the day.

"It was important to do this because those who benefited, it helps to cut some of their back to school expenses. It definitely made the children happy and ease some of the burden on the parents," said Prendergast, who was quite happy with the want the event unfolded.

In fact, Prendergast was so impressed that, instead of making it a one-off event, he has given the community a firm commitment that it will be an annual event. He also expressed a desire to extend the treat to children in the adjoining communities.

"Next year we will be adding an additional component to inspire the children educationally. We are looking at doing a spelling bee, an essay competition among other contests," said Prendergast." Also, we are planning to seek sponsorship from some of the major corporate company in Trelawny and nationwide."

We are open to whatever sponsorship assistance we can get from any company because the need is great and we want to assist as many children as we can," added Prendergast
