Governor threatens lawsuit over immigration order
Governor-elect Greg Abbott appears poised to keep his promise and sue the Obama administration over executive actions on immigration, the 31st time he's filed suit against the federal government since 2009.
After President Barack Obama announced his order November 21, Abbott vowed "swift action", then suggested last week that a lawsuit was coming soon.
It's Abbott's first major issue since his easy victory to succeed Governor Rick Perry, who has also clamoured for a lawsuit.
Obama's actions are designed to spare from deportation nearly five million people living illegally in the United States. Abbott says Texas has unique standing because of the outsize impact the order would have on it. Abbott has already sued 30 times since Obama took office.
