Police are searching for thieves who stole a quantity of cash and household appliances as the Gender, Youth and Child Development Minister Clifton De Coteau slept at his brothers over the weekend.

Police said a television set, kitchen utensils and cash were stolen at the house in Princes Town, south of here on the weekend.

De Coteau told police he had secured the house before going to sleep and when he awoke on Sunday morning "the house was ransacked".

De Coteau said he forgot the keys to the burglar-proofed door in the lock, which made it easy for the thieves to enter the house.

"This is my family's house. My brother is in London and I am here until he returns. I will be installing alarms and surveillance cameras as precautionary measures," he added.
