WASHINGTON (AP):

President Barack Obama is getting a head start on turning a year older.

Obama turns 54 on Tuesday but in what has become an annual birthday tradition, the president started celebrating yesterday by taking a trio of friends from his Hawaii childhood for a golf outing at Andrews Air Force Base.

The group then spent the night at the secluded Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains.

The White House said the other members of Obama's foursome this time around were his long time friends Mike Ramos, Bobby Titcomb and Greg Orme.

The President is scheduled to return to the White House this afternoon.
