St Maarten
A new government was sworn into office here on Monday following the collapse of the previous coalition administration that led the Dutch speaking Caribbean island after it gained Netherlands Kingdom Country Status in 2010.
The government collapsed after the Democratic Party (DP) and the United People’s (UP) party coalition lost its majority in Parliament. The new administration is still headed by Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams of the Democratic Party.
It now includes the former opposition party National Alliance (NA) and independent legislators Frans Richardson and Patrick Illidge, as well as former UP parliamentarian Romain La Ville, who has since announced that he is an independent legislator.
