Governor gets haircut at barber shop where man was shot and killed

Published: Monday August 13, 2012 | 4:57 pm Comments 0

BERMUDA
HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC:

Bermuda's Governor George Fergusson, who lost an eye in a London mugging on the eve of taking up his new post in this British Overseas Territory, has surprised the owner of a barber shop, where a man was gunned down and killed a month ago, by turning up to get his hair cut.

Barber shop owner Dean Fox said he had been surprised by the telephone call booking an appointment, and had rung the number back to make sure it was not a prank.

"I came first of all because I needed a haircut," Fergusson said, adding that the 'terrible incident that happened here was a real shock to the community, and as a new member of the community, in a small way, I wanted to show my support."

Joshua Robinson, 31, was shot dead while getting his hair cut and the Governor described the killing as "a tragedy for the victim's family, and for this barbershop in particular". The killer remains at large.
