PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard Monday suggested that a Commission of Enquiry hear in camera, the evidence of Yasin Abu Bakr, the leader of a Muslim group that unsuccessfully tried to overthrow the Trinidad and Tobago government in 1990. Gaspard also told the Commission, chaired by the prominent Barbadian jurist, Sir David Simmons, that the state has no intention of dropping the sedition and incitement charges against Bakr, after a High Court last month ordered a re-trial on the matter.
