December 17 General Election announced

Published: Friday November 16, 2012 | 10:58 am Comments 0

HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC:
Bermudans will go to the polls on Monday, December 17. The announcement has ended months of speculation about the date of the General Election on this British Overseas Territory of 65,000 residents.

Premier Paula Cox who made the announcement late Thursday said Parliament will be dissolved on Friday.

Cox, who is also Finance Minister, urged her supporters at a Progressive Labour Party (PLP) rally Thursday night to get out and vote her party back into power for a fourth consecutive term.

The poll will be held against a backdrop of concerns over gang violence, rising unemployment and national debt of US$1.25 billion.
