Opposition against plans to increase number of senators in Parliament

Published: Thursday November 22, 2012 | 4:35 pm Comments 0

ST KITTS

BASSETERRE, CMC:
Leader of the main opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM), Shawn Richards says he is against plans by the government to introduce legislation allowing for an increase in the number of senators in the National Assembly.

“I do believe that it is an attempt...by (Prime Minister) Denzil Douglas to strengthen his hand in Parliament,” Richards told the privately-owned WINN FM radio station.

The Senators (Increasing of Number) Bill, 2012 will be debated on Wednesday and if approved, will allow for the government to add two more members to its side in the Senate while the opposition will be given one additional position.
