CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC:
A senior official of the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO), Tyrone Sutherland, says the tourism sector could be adversely affected if the meteorological services in St. Lucia is not certified by the Switzerland based International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Sutherland held talks with Deputy Prime Minister Phillip J Pierre as part of a visit to the region on charting the way forward for the meteorology in the sub-region.
Officials here say that St. Lucia’s meteorological services are in the final stages of becoming ISO compliant and could become certified next year.
Sutherland, CMO director, said that the tourism and aviation sectors could suffer if the meteorological services are sub-standard.
