PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO CMC:
More than 50 years after its formation, the main opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) has unanimously adopted measures that will allow party supporters to cast a vote in internal elections to choose a new leader.
Previously, the PNM, formed by the late Dr. Eric Williams in 1955 and at one time held power for 30 unbroken years, had relied on the delegate system of choosing executive members.
But at a special convention on Sunday, the general membership approved of the new measures that also included the removal of the veto power of the political leader on the screening committee.
