Veteran St Lucia journalist dead
Published: Friday February 1, 2013 | 11:44 am Comments 0CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Veteran journalist Timothy Augustin James died Friday after a prolonged illness, his relatives have said. He was 67.
James, who was the local correspondent for a number of regional and international news organisations, including the Barbados-based Caribbean News Agency (CANA) and the now defunct Montserrat based Radio Antilles, also served as the first director of the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO).
In 1996, he was awarded the Les Piton (Silver) medal and appointed to the Order of St. Lucia for his dedicated community service.
He is most remembered for being the reporter that accompanied the St. Lucia delegations to London for the constitutional talks that led to the island gaining its independence in 1979.
