A tremor shook sections of New Kingston as well as downtown Kingston yesterday around 1:08 in the afternoon.

The earthquake, whose epicentre was located 65 kilometres east southeast of Santiago, Cuba, measured 5.6 on the Richter scale, according to the National Earthquake Information Center, US Geological Society. Its depth was registered at 17.2 kilometres.

Head of the University of the West Indies Earthquake Unit, Dr Lynden Brown, told The Sunday Gleaner that although the quake was minor, aftershocks could be experienced.
