Pakistan win one-day series

PORT OF SPAIN, CANA - PAKISTAN, inspired by Mushtaq Ahmed's
tantalising leg-spin bowling, beat West Indies by four wickets in a tense
low-scoring game to win the first-ever triangular Cable and Wireless
one-day international cricket series in the Caribbean at Queen's Park Oval
here yesterday.
Set a modest victory target of 115 runs, Pakistan, after routing the West
Indies for a meagre 114 in 33.2 overs with leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed taking
four for 22, paced themselves to 116 for six in 45.1 overs.
Adams: We did not get enough runs
PORT OF SPAIN, CANA - Despite being beaten by Pakistan 2-1 in the
first-ever triangular Cable and Wireless one-day international cricket
series in the Caribbean, West Indies' manager Ricky Skerritt and team
captain Jimmy Adams are heartened by the regional team's improvement.
"Inspite of an unfortunate day at the office today (Sunday), with our
batting, the team is getting better. We've seen signs that this team is
going to continue to grow and continue to improve," Skerritt said after
Pakistan defeated the West Indies by four wickets in a low-scoring third
final at Queen's Park Oval.
Mackey, Russell square off

DEFENDING CHAMPION Vince Mackey and teenage sensational Ryan Russell
will contest the men's singles final at the Swept Away Clay Tennis
Championship in Negril today. Three other finals are down to be contested.
Mackey, came from a set down, to beat Elvis Henry 6-7, 6-0, 6-2; while
Russell led Jermaine Smith 6-2 before the latter defaulted.

LEADING TRAINER Philip Feanny goes for his fourth consecutive win in
the Easter Sprint Cup at Caymanas Park today when he saddles the
four-year-old PROUDEST NATIVE in the $310,000 - $270,000 claiming race over
1200 metres.
Feanny posted MENTOR to win the race in 1997, MIRACLE CURE in 1998 and
FLIGHT OF FANCY last year. With PROUDEST NATIVE nicely off at the weights
with 51.0kg, Feanny could well continue his dominance in this particular
race.

ST GEORGE'S, CANA -TRINIDADIAN 15-year-old sensation Darrel Brown
produced a sizzling record run to win the boys under-17 years 100 metres on
the opening day of the 2000 Carifta Games on Saturday.
Brown sped to 10.36 clocking to slice almost 3/10ths of a second off the
previous mark on a day of four records.
