Courts honours manufacturers
COURTS, JAMAICA'S leading furniture and appliance chain of stores, honoured a number of its furniture manufacturers at an awards ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza.
At the entrance to the Fort Belle terrace was an unfinished chair propped atop a cutting board. Wood shavings were scattered about the floor reflecting a carpenter's workshop. Upon entering the well-laid out dining area, several samples of work by manufacturers which supply the chain of stores with goods were on display. They included a plush burgundy sofa, a whatnot and bedside tables.
Errol Alliman, director of distribution for Courts was the emcee for the evening.
Following dinner, Mr. Singh and Gordon Walker, the company's purchasing director, gave an overview of the awards and Courts' quality standards.
The cool mountain breeze had some women shivering and asking for hot coffee or tea.
The well-dressed C02 Band played smooth reggae and old-school rhythms, which were well received by the guests.
The evening culminated with the presentation of awards.
Heffes Sales Company Limited, Leodor Ali Steel and Wood Company Limited, Wavel Limited and Boss Trading Company Limited were awarded certificates for product and pricing innovation.
The top awards went to Serv-Wel for Best Operating Environment, Upholstery Manufacturing Limited for Best Scheduled Delivery, CAC Limited for Best Product Quality.
All three won plaques and a trip for a representative to attend the International Woodworking Machinery and Furniture Supply Fair in Atlanta.
CAC Limited was declared the Best Manufacturer. Clive Washington accepted a trophy and US$5,000 towards capital equipment for the company.
