St. Vincent to meet Reggae Boyz

KINGSTOWN, (AP):WITH Alwyn Guy supplying two goals, St. Vincent and the Grenadines beat Antigua and Barbuda 4-0 yesterday to advance to the next round of the World Cup qualifying series.

St. Vincent's first goal came from Vincent John in the 11th minute and gave the team the points total needed to guarantee a July 17 match against Jamaica.

Wesley John hit the net in the 50th minute, with Guy making his contributions in the 56th and 61st minutes against goalkeeper Jarneil Simon.

It was a reversal of the May 7 match, when Antigua beat St. Vincent 2-1. This time, the Vincentians dominated the game, giving its own goalkeeper, Melville Andrews, little work.

"We were able to score goals this time," said St. Vincent coach Sammy Carrington. "They were no threat at all."

The teams played before a crowd of about 7,500 people, including a group of Antiguans who chartered an airplane to attend the game.

Antiguan manager Scacchel Joseph said he believed his players had the jitters.

"I think it's just the big time -- probably we're suffering from that," he said. "The guys probably didn't live up to what we really expected them to. They didn't give it their heart."
