Complaints and conservation

THE EDITOR, Madam:

IT IS amazing what we Jamaicans will complain about. The most recent being the Cable and Wireless rate increase. These people complain about paying a few cents per minute for a call while at the same time whenever they get the 25 cent and 10 cent coins they throw them away. If they saved all the money they throw away they could pay their phone bills.

One labour union has also said that Cable and Wireless employees should be paid more. They seem to be forgetting that the company is guaranteed at least 17.5 per cent return on investment and if they have to pay workers (who are already highly paid) more money the rates will have to be further increased.

It seems to me that all of this noise is a waste of time and instead of complaining people should stop having those meaningless hours-long conversations on the phones and their bills will not be large.

I am etc.,

RICARDO SMALLING
