United Airlines launches services

IT WAS celebration time at Talk of the Town ballroom, Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, when members of United Airlines, the Tour Connection Limited (TTCL), several travel agencies and other guests gathered for the official launch of the Airlines' service in Jamaica, recently.

United Airlines will not fly to Jamaica, but will have connections with Air Jamaica and BWIA. The Tour Connections Limited (TTCL) was named as their General Sales Agent in Jamaica.

The launch and reception did not include speeches or formal addresses. The Hummingbird steel band entertained, while guests gathered in groups, chatted and enjoyed an assortment of fruits, pastries, meats, and liquors. The occasion called for letting the hair down and partying.

The colours red, white and blue were used to decorate the ballroom, where an impromtu raffle took place. Guests were asked to drop their business cards in a bowl and three prizes of airline tickets were given away. First prize went to Richard Smyth, deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy.

Dr. Paul Robertson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was a guest at the launch. Other guests included, Sonia Finnikin, sales representative of BWIA and Pauline Gooden, managing director of The Travel Connection Limited. Guests stayed and enjoyed the evening until long after 9.
