Jamaica fall behind B'dos

GEORGETOWN, CANA:

FOUR-WICKET hauls from Anderson Sealy and Ryan Austin ensured defending champions Barbados took first innings points from Jamaica on the second day of their Zone B West Indies Under-19 cricket match at the GCC ground, Bourda, yesterday.

Left-arm spinner Sealy claimed four for 45 and off-spinner Austin four for 57 as Jamaica, chasing Barbados's first innings score of 249, fell for 200.

Barbados increased the lead to 66 by reaching 17 for one at the close. The batsman out was skipper Jason Parris (3), bowled leg stump by Jermaine Lawson.

Earlier, Austin and Sealy extended their last wicket partnership to 45 after Barbados resumed at their overnight 229 for nine in the first innings.

Austin, 15 at the start, remained unbeaten on 32 while Sealy moved to 22 from 19 before being caught at deep-mid-wicket off the bowling of Phillip Keating.

Jamaica began their run chase in positive fashion, racing to 50 in 48 minutes from 14.1 overs. They had however lost Brenton Parchment (11), stumped by Patrick Browne off Sealy who shared the new ball with Ryan Nurse.

They then lost Donovan Pagon, who hit five fours from 61 balls before being well caught by Jason Parris at slip off Austin for 41.

Maurice Clarke (6) also went before lunch, taken at 87 for three, when he was caught at extra-cover off leg-spinner Ryan Layne. Danza Hyatt (53) and Carlton Baugh (42) then produced the best partnership of the innings, taking Jamaica to 141 before Baugh, who struck five boundaries, pulled Sealy to Marlon Clarke at mid-wicket.

The innings went into decline afterwards with Austin having Ewan Doharty (7) leg-before-wicket; Hyatt caught at forward short-leg after he had batted for 218 minutes and struck four fours from 188 balls; and Phillip Keating (0) caught in the same position.

Layne also had Rashard Marshall (4) caught at short-leg; while Sealy had O'dean Browne (9) caught at slip and Lawson caught and bowled.
