Ja lift Antilles Bodybuilding title

HOSTS Jamaica lifted the team title for the first time at the fifth Antilles Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, which ended at the National Arena last Saturday night.

Jamaica grossed 56 points to finish one point ahead runners-up Puerto Rico 55 and Bahamas who had 52.

Coach of the National team, Fredrick Smith, said he was impressed by the performances of Jamaicans Rupert Johnson and Judy Allen.

Johnson was the only Jamaican winner in the Antilles Championships, after taking top spot in the Light-heavyweight category by totalling 12 points. He placed ahead of Lester Perigord of Bahamas (21) and David Estrada of Puerto Rico (29).

Allen who was hit by dehydration during the opening ceremony but bounced back to emerge Jamaica's female Junior champion by totalling 11 points and taking second spot in the Antilles Women's Heavyweight Championship with 30 points, behind winner Charmaine McNabb of Bahamas (13).

Robert Rosa of the Dominican Republic was the champion of the men's Heavyweights with 15 points over Jose Miranda of Puerto Rico (16) and Jamaica's Paul Reid (30).

Puerto Rico's Carlos Ayala scored 10 points to capture the Middleweight division over Raymond Tucker of the Bahamas (20) and Cecil Beacon of Jamaica (34).

Marc Delisca of Haiti came out on top in the men's Lightweight category with 14 points over Rafael Pimental (17) and Winston Grant of Jamaica (30).

Isabel Garcia of Mexico, the lone women's competitor in the Fitness Champs, won the division with a score of 10.

Meanwhile hot favourite Mark McDonald of Body Dynamics Fitness Centre emerged Jamaica's Male Junior Champion by totalling 16 points. He was followed by Cecil Beacon of Tiger's Gym.
