THE Sashi media briefing at the Devonshire Restaurant on Monday night was as informal as such events can get.
There were no boring speeches by stiff-necked, tie-wearing executive types or self-righteous dronings about 'how great the upcoming event was going to be'. Instead, the entertainment fraternity was given a chance to just hang out, make contacts, and lyme for an hour or two.
There were scores of entertainment personalities, media practitioners and local entertainment agency owners at the restaurant.
Media practitioners got the chance to meet a new and exciting LOY group comprising of four males and one female. The group which is involved in a project with local producer Tony Kelly, is a part of the family which originated the Sashi 2000 showcase.
Jerome Hamilton of Headline Entertainment told THE STAR that after this upcoming 'Sashi weekend, Jamaica may just never be the same'.
The "SASHI weekend", as it is being called in entertainment circles, kicks off this Friday with the launching of the SASHI Denim Ladies collection.
The event will feature innovative designs, and will be unveiled at The Mansion, 1 Durie Drive, Russell Heights. Expectations have spiked to fever pitch as international artistes and personalities such as John Salley and the R & B group Next are rumoured to be jetting in to take part in the event. Models will include Wendy Fitzwilliams, former Miss Universe. There will be an after-party following the fashion show.
On Saturday night, at the Jamaica Grande hotel, there is an invitation-only party where guests will include R & B, hip hop and dancehall artistes and other celebrities. On Sunday, there will be the main event which will boast a heavyweight line-up of artistes such as Snoop Doggy Dogg, Lil Kim, Brian McKnight, DJ Biz Markie, Mr. Lexx and T.O.K.
