The missing mystery

THE EDITOR, Madam:

THE PUBLIC Affairs article in The Sunday Gleaner of August 20 titled "The Mystery of the Missing", by Lloyd Williams/Senior Associate Editor made such fascinating reading that I took time out to strain my aging vision to take in every word, line by line.

At the end I could only compare these stories with tales of UFOs and other stories of missing ships and craft in the Bermuda Triangle.

The event relating to Miss Kirschhoch is here with us in our times and on our island. I would like to submit my personal views as to how such an incident could have happened.

It has been established that this young lady and her friends had travelled to Cuba for some reason but were refused entry into Cuba. Question one. Why was she refused entry to Cuba?

It is clear that she did not get to her intended destination in the first instance. We can speculate that if her reason for going to Cuba was of importance she would be compelled to try for entry from some other point.

So she arrives in Jamaica, then with minimum delay she strolled on the beach armed with a small radio. Point to note: even fanatic music lovers do not go swimming with their radio, so what if this was a two-way machine which could help someone to make contact?

It is said that this pretty one is also a strong swimmer, so with skill and equipment she could easily have made a contact and be on her way to her original destination.

I regret the mystery of her disappearance here in Jamaica, in the interest of our tourist industry, we do not need such happenings. However, I sincerely hope that she will be found safe and well. As for the FBI officers and their clever sniff dog, I hope they won't be too disappointed if they should find that they have been sniffing in the wrong place.

I am, etc.,

SEIBERT A. DOBSON

Gayle, St. Mary
