TAUTON, England, AP:
FIVE DAYS before they try and tie the series against England in the final Test, the West Indies tumbled to a humiliating 269-run, first ever loss to Somerset yesterday.
Needing 439 to win at Taunton, the tourists batting failed yet again and they lost their last seven wickets for 45 runs in nine overs and were bowled out for 169.
After Jamie Grove had started the Somerset charge with three for five in 12 deliveries, seam bowler Jason Kerr finished the match with his first career hat-trick dismissing Brian Lara for 24 and Nixon McLean and Corey Collymore without scoring.
Opener Adrian Griffith top scored with 77 but got little support. Sherwin Campbell was next top scorer with 29.
Wavell Hinds failed to score and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, back on the team for the first time since the second Test in June, was left unbeaten on four.
With the West Indies going into the final Test at The Oval 2-1 down and facing a series loss to England for the first time in 31 years, the signs are not good.
Chanderpaul seems to be struggling with the ruptured tendon injury in his elbow and skipper Jimmy Adams missed this game with a finger injury.
Reon King injured his instep while bowling on the first day and took no further part in the game while fellow paceman Franklyn Rose is still troubled by the ankle injury that forced him to miss the Headingley Test.
