Choosy Jamaicans
HERE is our reality check on dress habits of Jamaicans ranging in age from 23 to 36.
MARGO FACEY
"I get my fashion ideas from television shows like 'Charmed' and stuff like that. I don't wear designer stuff....I can't afford it. I buy all my clothes and I shop when I'm abroad."
KEISHA LEE"I get my fashion ideas from magazines, television, from going window shopping, anything that I see that I like and that will suit me. I don't make a habit of it, but I've worn Ralph Lauren, Gloria Vanderbilt, Guess and Tommy. Mommy buys most of my clothes."
RICHARD HUE "I go with the fashion flow and eliminate what I don't like. My favourite designers are Levi's and Ralph Lauren. I buy my clothes overseas, mostly shopping in the US and from Europe." SIMONE BROWN"Most of my clothes are ready- made, but I don't really have any brand that I stick to. I look for something that is my shade and something that is well made. I also find that ready-made clothes are better made than some of the 'dressmakers' clothes which normally have a very rough finish." JAMES CLARKE"I like Ralph Lauren. I am not a Tommy Hilfiger man. I also like Gucci. I am conservative though. I would rather die than be caught wearing a shirt saying 'USA'. Every pants is custom made, but all shirts ready made. For the past 14 years I have only had three tailors. Once I find a good one, I don't change."
