New Zealand women on top

THE EDITOR, Madam:

IT IS exciting news that New Zealand a dominion in the Commonwealth like Jamaica, has led the world by having four women in the top four posts in that country.

The Governor-General will now be Dame Silvia Cartwright; the Prime Minister is Helen Clarke, the Leader of the Opposition, Jenny Shipley a former Prime Minister.

The Attorney-General is Margaret Wilson, and the Chief Justice Dame Sian Elias.

I am convinced that this dramatic takeover by women of the government will lead to great success. Let us not forget that Mrs. Thatcher has been the best Prime Minister of England in the 20th century. May the New Zealand achievement by women encourage our women in Jamaica. We continue to import lovely cheese from New Zealand. One hopes that we will import their involvement of women in the top leadership posts.

I am, etc.,
