In praise of J'can athletes

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I WOULD like to congratulate the Jamaican athletes who have so far earned medals for themselves and Jamaica.

Ms. Tayna Lawrence earned a bronze in the 100 metres because of her will, determination speed, and as it turned out, the okay from the powerful men of the JAAA.

Ms. Lorraine Graham did her 'personal best' and also earned our first medal in the Women's 400 metres at the Olympics.

A special word must be said for Mr. Gregory Haughton, who has been dubbed 'spokesman for the athletes'. Mr. Haughton proved that you can speak out against injustice yet remain focused on the task at hand.

To the rest of the team, press on, there are a few Jamaicans who have noticed what is going on and we are getting bolder and bolder in trying to make a difference.

I am, etc.,

Dr. PAUL WRIGHT,

14 Spanish Court,

New Kingston.
