Cornwall, St. James in 0-0 stalemate

WESTERN BUREAU -

CORNWALL College and St. James High played to a 0-0 draw yesterday in a Zone A game at Jarrett Park as seasonal rain affected a number of daCosta Cup return round matches.

Muschett failed to make full use of St. James' slip up when William Knibb held them to a 0-0 draw and stayed in third place while Herbert Morrison were 1-0 winners over Maldon.

Cornwall continue to lead Zone A with 14 points, St. James are second with 13 while Muschett are on 1. Herbert Morrison are next with seven and seemingly out of contention for a place in the next round.

Rusea's returned to the top of Zone B with a 3-1 win over Grange Hill in Lucea after the game between Frome and Knockalva scheduled for the Frome Grounds was not played.

Rusea's are on 15 points from six games while Frome have 13.

At Jarrett Park, Cornwall should have taken the lead after 10 minutes of the second half when St. James' goalkeeper Andre McKnight failed to hold on to a low shot. Garrick Gordon stole the ball, dribbled wide but could find no outlet for his pass in front of a wide-open goal.

A minute later, a powerful left-foot shot from Deshawn Woolery just cleared the post.

St. James' best chance came in the 60th minute when Omar Campbell finished off a brilliant run down the right by Delvon Ellis with a shot that just skimmed the bar on its way out of play.

Ellis used his speed and guile to evaded two crunching tackles from Cornwall players as he dribbled all the way from the half line to just outside the 18 yards area before passing to Campbell.

Cornwall hit the post twice late in the game as they increased their efforts to get a goal.
