Tivoli goes after second win

Fitzroy Prendergast, Staff Reporter

HAVING rebounded admirably from their 1-0 loss to Waterhouse two Sundays ago, Tivoli seek their second consecutive win in the National Premier League when they host Seba at the Railway Oval in one of two Corporate Area games.

Tivoli, who were dethroned of their Premier League title last year after losing in the semi-finals, struggled against a spirited Waterhouse at Ferdie Neita Park but acquitted themselves well against a Arnett Gardens last week, whom they beat 2-1.

It was national players Christopher Nicholas and Jermaine Johnson who scored against Arnett Gardens and new coach Ali McNab is banking on both for a sterling effort to tag Seba.

"With us playing at home, we're going to try to make Seba pay dearly for having travelled so far up to Railway Oval. Home teams need to get maximum points and that's what we'll be going for," said McNab.

McNab was mindful that is team did not play well for the entire game in their last outing.

"We hope to build on what we did last Sunday. We played 45 minutes of exquisite football. We faltered a bit in the second half and we came back in the latter stages to regain control of the game. Certainly, against a team like Seba you can't afford those mental lapses.

"However, on the plus side, we took 15 shots, some of them wayward which we tried to work on in training this week and hopefully those will be on target come Sunday," said McNab.

Seba, despite travelling from the second city to take on Tivoli in their backyard, are harbouring thoughts of winning.

"We will be travelling 124 miles and we're going there to win the game," said Bruce Gaynor, chairman of Seba Football Club.

Former manager Gaynor said: "We're hoping all conditions will be in our favour in terms of the weather and the players themselves because we're going to Tivoli and that some times is a factor for some players."

"Tivoli is a good team but we're a good team also and we're strong so it will be a battle royale."

Waterhouse, with four points from six games, host Arnett Gardens at Drewsland in what is expected to be a tough game.

Arnett have lost both games played to date by 2-1 margins to Constant Spring and Tivoli and with the loss of a number of their key players to suspension, they are not expected to beat a Waterhouse team led by Damion Powell, Alberto Fray and Leroy Smith.

Hazard, with national players Claude Davis and Linval Dixon have also lost both games and should face a rough time against Wadadah who are yet to collect maximum points from their two games.
