THE LES Ambassadeurs ballroom at the Hilton Kingston Hotel was exquisitely decorated to house Hot 102's first Annual Advertising Awards Luncheon. Yellow, orange and white balloons filled the room, while green potted plants and palms lined the podium.
Senator Maxine Henry-Wilson, guest speaker at the ceremony called on the media and the government to work together to create a better country.
In addressing representatives of the media, she said: "You are the brokers of information. The principle that you should be honest brokers between citizens and government continues to be indisputable."
Hot 102's top advertising agencies were The Marketing Counsellors (first), followed by Dunlop Corbin and Compton and Lindo F.C.B. In the individual segment, first-place went to Nestle JMP Jamaica Ltd. followed by Jamaica Biscuit Company and Caribbean Broilers.
A surprised and emotional Hot 102 DJ Barrington 'Barry G' Gordon accepted a trophy for his 25 years of service to radio and the nation. While making his way out of the function, he was stopped by broadcaster Fae Ellington and invited to the podium, where he was presented with a trophy by Senator Henry-Wilson.
He also received a personal gift of a framed photograph of he and Ms. Ellington during a radio broadcast at Half-Way Tree square several years ago.
As part of the entertainment package, Rodney Campbell did convincing impersonations of Barry G, Cliff Hughes, Winston 'Babatunde' Witter and Wilmot 'Mutty' Perkins, much to the delight of the guests.
Organiser of the function was Lisa O'Gilvie, managing director of Caribbean Events Group, who was on hand to ensure that the programme went smoothly.
Bright floral arrangements centred each table on which a delectable lunch of leek and chicken broth, fresh garden greens with raspberry vinaigrette, pan-fried snapper with tomato basil sauce, marinated chicken breast charred with pineapple, rice and peas, mountain vegetable medley and rum and raisin cheese cake was served.
