Letter of the Day - Street people pension?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I AM a Jamaican government pensioner who retired some 10 years ago, after serving for 39 years and 9 months.

My current pension is $13,402.89 per month and from this amount, $1,257.72 is deducted for income tax, leaving me with $12,145.17 per month.

Now, the Government has decided to give the Montego Bay Street People $20,000 per month, and I am wondering if Income Tax will be deducted from the amount that they are, or will be getting.

Latterly, why did the Government decide to give these Street People a pension?

Were they (the Government) responsible for the removal of these Street People why they opted to take the route which they have taken, or are about to take?

I am, etc.,

JOHN WILLIAMS
