Poetic justice

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I WAS extremely appalled by the JAAA's decision allowing Olympian Merlene Ottey to run the 100m sprint race after her 4th place finish at the national trials. I think that I share the sentiments of many others: if you don't qualify, then you don't compete no matter how famous your name is.

How ironic the scenario is: she ran and she came fourth. Where would Peta-Gaye have placed if she had run the race instead of Merlene? I guess now we will never know.

The JAAA may have cheated Jamaica, and more importantly, Peta-Gaye out of a medal.

I am etc.,
