PORT MARIA:
THE ST. Mary Fire Brigade under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent Philson Pryce completed a week of activities to mark Fire Safety Awareness Week" in the parish from October 22 to 28. They joined with their colleagues in a regional church service at the St. Ann's Bay Baptist Church on October 22, followed by the mounting of an exhibition at both stations Annotto Bay and Port Maria on the 23rd. This was viewed by a fairly good amount of persons.
A service offered by the Brigade on October 24 was an extinguisher check of commercial and other vehicles in the Port Maria area in collaboration with the police. Those found without extinguishers were warned to have one installed.
The Emmanuel Baptist Church in Port Maria was the venue for a discussion on the topic Fire Safety At Large on October 25.
A similar extinguisher check of commercial and other vehicles was carried out on October 26 in the Annotto Bay area. Highgate was visited by the officers and men, where face to face discussion on 'Fire Safety at Large' took place in the town square and business places on October 27.
The week climaxed with a fire fighters ball at the Hilton Kingston Hotel on October 28.
Overall the week of activities in the parish was good and the message of Fire Safety and Awareness was received by the public.
