Harbour View clip Paradise 1-0

HARBOUR View made it two wins from two games in Group Two of the CONCACAF (Football Confederation) Club Championships by clipping Paradise of Barbados 1-0 in the feature game of a doubleheader at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium last night.

A 57th minute strike from captain Jermaine Hue rescued his team from what was shaping up to be a miserable evening.

It was not a fluent display from the Harbour View team which took about 20 minutes to settle down to a good pattern of play. The mood of the captain Hue usually reflects that of the team and he appeared not to be greatly motivated.

In between his periods of disinterest, he did combine with his sidekick, Robert Scarlett, to trouble the Paradise defence. On one such occasion - in the ninth minute - he fed Scarlett down the left flank and with no defender to pressure him, fired at goal. Goalkeeper Larry Lashley blocked the ball into the path of Mark Miller who failed to capitalise.

Paradise, playing their usual disciplined, organised game, came close to scoring in the 11th minute. Paul Lovell broke into the 18-yard box forcing, Leeroy Gray to dart off his line and dive at Lovell's feet to keep him out.

While Hue was having a below par game, young Daniel Shaw played well and tried to create opportunities for his teammates, in particular Miller who missed a number of chances.

Hue's goal came almost as a surprise as he received a pass in the middle of the Paradise half, lined up his shot and fired from about 30 yards out into the roof of the net off the hand of Lashley and the underside of the bar. He then turned and walked casually to his half.

In the opening encounter, Violette of Haiti took out the frustration of their 5-0 hammering on Sunday by whipping Roots Alley Ballers 7-1. Ramis Lespinas had a hat-trick and Peterson Jackson scored twice. Louis Germaien and Ronald Beauplan were the other scorers.

The competition continues tomorrow with another doubleheader. At 6:00 p.m., Violette meet Paradise while Harbour View tackle Roots Alley Ballers at 8:00.
