D. Town, N. Manley triumph

LADY luck smiled on Denham Town Comprehensive for the second time inside four days when they were outplayed by Wolmer's High yesterday but came out 2-1 winners in their crucial Group Two second round Manning Cup game at Ferdie Neita Sports Complex.

In another game at the venue, Norman Manley Comprehensive, courtesy of a double strike from Courtney Williams (third and 33rd minutes), outscored Donald Quarrie Comprehensive 4-2, in a Group One encounter, although playing with nine men for the final 10 minutes.

Referee Michael Kennedy gave Damion Ellington and Emilo Morris their marching orders in the 69th and 70th minutes for violent conduct.

Julius Roberts (30th minute) and Morris (41st) were the other scorers for Norman Manley while Ryan Reid (47th and 50th minute penalty) scored both goals for Donald Quarrie.

On Saturday, Denham Town were let off the hook by Kingston College goalkeeper Daniel Bradshaw who let a simple ball go over his head after his team had a 1-0 lead. As a result of that mishap, Denham Town walked away with a point; and yesterday they survived tremendous pressure from Wolmer's to come away with three crucial points which now places them in a good position to qualify for the second round with four points and a game to play. St. Anne's Comprehensive (three points) and group favourites KC (one point) trail Denham Town and it will now be a do-or-die situation for KC in their clash with St. Anne's today.

For Wolmer's, who are now eliminated, defeat was a bitter pill to swallow as they looked the better team for the entire second half.

Nathaniel Gidden's 35th minute strike and Rico Richard with a 51st minute goal gave Denham Town a 2-0 lead. But Wolmer's came charging back to put themselves in contention when Andre Campbell scored in 63rd minute. Afterward, Wolmer's took charge as Denham Town fell apart but still managed to hold on.
